Education Cand. med., University of Copenhagen (1978); MD, DTM&H, Specialist in Tropical Medicine (1987) and Infectious Diseases (1995).

Research Malaria in pregnancy, resistance to antimalarial drugs, clinical filariasis, epidemiology and control of schistosomiasis and intestinal helminths. Ongoing studies in Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Ghana and Malawi. Previous studies in Mozambique, Senegal, Zambia, Rep. of South Africa and Burkina Faso

Teaching Comprehensive experience of teaching tropical medicine and infectious diseases, epidemiology and control of vector borne parasitic diseases, public health, travel medicine. Supervisor of more than 30 PhD students.

Technical & Advisory Functions

Conducted several tasks related to schistosomiasis and Intestinal Helminth and Guinea Worm control. Member of the International Commission for the Certification of Dracunculiasis Eradication. Previously Secretary for the Federation of European Societies for Tropical Medicine and International Health. Scientific Advisor to Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI).
