In 2023, he received the Villum Young Investigator grant to launch an independent lab. His research focuses on understanding how bacteria defend against their viruses (phages), focusing on how CRISPR-Cas and other bacterial immune systems evolve and function. By studying the molecular mechanisms driving these complex systems, his team aims to make discoveries that answer fundamental biological questions and provide the basis for novel biotechnologies.
