Systematics, taxonomy, phylogeny, biogeography and evolution of two-winged insects (Diptera) with special emphasis on the Tachinidae family-group (Calliphoridae, Oestridae, Rhinophoridae, Sarcophagidae, Tachinidae). Diptera nomenclature. Large-scale biodiversity inventories.

Entomology: structure, phylogeny and biology of terrestrial arthropods (BSc-level course with other staff members/research associates of the Entomology Department).

Field Biology II - Zoology (mandatory field course for early BSc-students).

Ecology and Evolution of East Africa (2-weeks field course in Udzungwa, Tanzania, with Nikolaj Scharff).

Associate professor at the Natural History Museum of Denmark, Copenhagen University 2004-2024.

Professor at the Natural History Museum of Denmark, Copenhagen University since 2025.

Member of the International Council of Zoological Nomenclature (from 2006, president since 2016), member of the Council for the International Congresses of Dipterology (from 2006, chair 2010-2018), member of the scientific advisory committee for Museum Koenig in Bonn (2004-2009, chair 2006-2009), served on several scientific panels for SYNTHESYS (Stockholm, Budapest, London: 2002-2008). Editorial committees and advisory boards: Entomotropica, Studia dipterologica, Stuttgarter Beiträge zur Naturkunde (Ser. A), Tijdschrift voor Entomologie.
