Ulrik Sidenius

Short presentation

I hold a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Copenhagen and a PhD in Evidence-Based Health Design in Landscape Architecture from the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management (2017). I am currently an Associate Professor in Health Design in the Nature, Health & Design research group at the Department of Landscape Architecture and Planning, University of Copenhagen.

My research explores how the design of natural environments can promote human health and well-being. I work from a integrative understanding of health based on the WHO definition and concepts such as the biopsychosocial model, planetary health, and one health. My approach is salutogenic and interdisciplinary, and my research is conducted using multi-method designs grounded in both research and practice.

I am responsible for the Master’s level course Health Design (15 ECTS), the Bachelor’s course Nature-Integrative Health and Design – Landscape Architecture as a Framework in Social and Health Practice (7.5 ECTS), and Module 5 (10 ECTS) in the Master’s programme Nature-Based Rehabilitation, where research-based knowledge is translated into practice-oriented skills. Teaching is interdisciplinary and incorporates perspectives from landscape architecture, health sciences, and nature management.

Research findings are applied through collaboration with municipalities, health centres, architectural firms, and other stakeholders, ensuring that new knowledge is anchored in concrete solutions and contributes to the development of nature-integrative health initiatives.
