Abstract
This paper addresses the issue of unstable systems and their relation- ship to linguistic norms, by analysing therapeutic interactions dedi- cated to the early recovery of aphasia. These interactions take place between speech and language therapists and patients in the stroke unit of a French hospital. The theoretical and methodological perspective of Conversation Analysis will be followed, given its emphasis on speakers’ actual conduct as observed in audio/video recordings and detailed multimodal transcriptions. The analysis of therapeutic sessions focuses on the different communicative resources used by patients, the way therapists recognize and favour these resources, and the manifestation of the patients’ various competences.
