Abstract
Based on a psychoanalysis with a depressed analysand whose mother left him for a
year when he was an infant, and whose childhood in general has been marked by
neglect, I will examine and discuss whether psychoanalysis can teach us to care for
ourselves, what can prevent this development, and how opportunities and limitations
for the development of love can unfold in an analytical relationship.
