Abstract

This concluding chapter identifies future research priorities for the study of inter-sectoral dynamics and industrial transformation in sustainability transitions, focusing on multi-system dynamics, industrial transformation, policy, and digitalization. Drawing on insights from the chapters of the edited volume “Sustainability Transitions and Industrial Transformation: Multi-Sector Dynamics and Policy Perspectives”, it reviews the book’s key conceptual, empirical, and methodological advancements. The chapter calls for, among other topics, more geographically diverse and empirically grounded studies, further theoretical and methodological development of sustainability transition studies especially in terms of multi-system dynamics, and better understanding of the interconnections between socio-technical systems, firms, and policy in sustainability transitions. Finally, it advocates interdisciplinary collaboration and reflexivity in sustainability transitions research to address geopolitical shifts, technological sovereignty, and justice concerns, positioning the field for more inclusive and transformative impact.
