Abstract
Four new guaianolides 2-5 possessing the terpenoid skeleton of archangelolide [6] were isolated from a speciment of Thapsia villosa [chromosome number 2n = 66 ( = 6x)]. Attempts to hydrolyze the natural products 2-6 yielded azulenes, mainly 7-acetyl-1,4-dimethylazulene [9].
