Abstract

News from the Danish Fungal Atlas 2021
Activities in 2021 within the project Danish Fungal Atlas are reported. In November the total number of records
reached a million and a month before that the number of images surpassed half a million. 71 species of fungi (one
lichenized) were added to the Danish checklist and quite a few from previous years mainly based on sequencing
(a new cheap pipeline has been established). Punctelia reddenda was a spectacular addition to the list of Danish
lichenized fungi. The season was generally a good one – 1783 recorders reported more than 90,000 records in
2021 (3770 species) – a new record for the project that started in 2009. Of these 77,803 records have been vali-
dated at species level. The interactive validation system where all users can vote on a determination took care
of 66,537 records and 24,660 were expert validated. We have a new record number of recorders mostly caused
by the introduction of our app with an built-in AI. The high number of new inexperienced users has greatly in-
creased the workload in relation to validation of records.
A successful key-testing workshop was held on Bornholm with 13 participants. A book with illustrated keys
to nearly all Danish Basidiomycota is planned for printing sometime in 2023 and a testing session was overdue.
Funding for the Atlas terminates in November 2022. The project leadership is negotiating with the new national
portal Arter [Species] with the ambition of joining forces within a couple of years.
