Phase collapse and excitations in Bose-Einstein condensates

Abstract

A study of fragmented condensates is presented to elucidate the interplay between excitations and the collapse of relative phases within single condensates. Implications for experimental observation of interference between weakly coupled condensates are discussed, and means for computation are suggested and applied to a one-dimensional model system.
