Abstract

Research on the Qumran document called "Wiles of the Wicked Woman" (4Q184) by its first editor is reviewed, and a bias is shown to exist which is likely to derive from the unargued assumption of Essene authorship for the text - the Essene misogyny alleged by Josephus and Philo thus being attributed to the text.
