Abstract

This research aims at studying and characterize the residential patterns of the foreign population in one of the least studied geographical areas in Spain, as it is the Northwest region. Particularly, it is analysed the residential distribution in the city of A Coruña between 2005 and 2017. The low segregation rates confirm the patterns of insertion observed in other Spanish and southern European cities. Yet, differences across nationalities are significant and it is possible to speak of a structural segregation in the case of Senegalese population, as well as the configuration of Agra del Orzán as a new ethnic enclave, which main features bring it closer to the concept known in the literature as ethnic neighbourhood.
