Abstract

VITALITY – CENTRE FOR GOOD OLDER LIVES and Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen hosted a Nordic symposium on March 14th, 2018 on the current use and challenges in applying a dual risk assessment approach in the setting of nutrition recommendations. This approach acknowledges that both too low and too high intakes of nutrients may be related to health risks.

The presentations and discussions from the symposium are summed up in this report. The report summarizes expert presentations and the following discussions on the methodological framework, the terminologies and application. Case studies underlines some of the specific current Nordic challenges, including the lack of data for risk assessment in nutrition and examples on extrapolations to subgroups such as children and the elderly and to energy and protein. Also, the development of nutrition risk assessment using chronic disease endpoints is addressed.
