Abstract

This paper argues that a production of broiler chickens that does not take the welfare of the individual into consideration is ethically unjustifiable. Using Denmark as a case, this is argued on the basis of a description of the laws regulating broiler production and the lack of protection of individual animals that this entails as seen from an ethical perspective developed on the basis of the work of K.E. Løgstrup and Rosalind Hursthouse.
