Abstract
This chapter discusses how storm surges, the rise of sea levels and other climate-driven changes challenge established cultural heritage practices – the politics, procedures, ways of determining what is heritage worth preserving and what is not and the theories and assumptions behind such choices. Drawing on recent heritage literature and examples from coastal landscapes in Denmark and beyond, we describe some of the most salient challenges to business-as-usual in heritage practice and thinking and outline the contours of a newly emerging heritage paradigm that may help to create more resilient climate responses and just futures in coastal cities and landscapes.
