Short presentation

Anders Wivel is Professor of International Relations. His research focuses in particular on the foreign policy and strategic choices of small states.

More generally, he is interested in the theory and practice of foreign policy and international security and cooperation. He explores the changing manifestations of power politics, and how these changes create challenges and opportunities for Denmark and other smaller countries in international politics.

Theoretically, Anders Wivel's research is most often takes its point of departure in the realist perspective on international relations. His research publications include both purely theoretical works and theoretically informed empirical analyses based on written sources and interviews.

Anders loves to teach and supervise. You are welcome to come by during his office hours or send an email.

Anders Wivel is chair of the European International Studies Association's section 'Small States in World Politics' (together with Revecca Pedi, University of Macedonia), and leads the University of Copenhagen's contribution to the EU-funded Horizon Twinning project CEE Security Hub. He is an active member of the Global Research Network on Peaceful Change (GRENPEC) and the Department of Political Science's research group International Politics.

You can read more about Anders Wivel's research and teaching on his personal website.
